The unique landscape invites you to enjoy active experiences in summer and winter alike.

The Ötztal Nature Park offers several guided themed hikes each week, over 25 individual events on current nature-related topics, and a dedicated children’s programme – including themed trails on high-alpine archaeology, glaciology, and life in the Obergurgl Swiss stone pine forest.

Frequenly asked questions

Are the guided walks free for hotel guests?

Yes. As a partner of the Ötztal Nature Park, we can offer our guests every nature park walk free of charge. There are 10 to 14 guided themed walks to choose from each week, led by qualified mountain walking guides. In total, more than 35 walks – from gentle to adventurous – start at the hotel.

What makes Tauferberg a certified hiking hotel?

We have been a member of Wanderhotels Tirol since 1997 and meet their standards: guided walks with qualified mountain guides, equipment hire, route advice at reception, a boot room and a kitchen built on fresh, mainly regional ingredients. We will make up a packed lunch for the day for a small fee.

What hiking equipment can I borrow at the hotel?

Telescopic and Nordic walking poles, rucksacks, water bottles, waterproofs and hiking maps are all free to borrow. Via ferrata equipment is available for a fee. What else costs extra is listed under Inclusive services.

Can I reach the starting points without a car?

Yes. The hiking bus stop is right outside the hotel, and many walks begin at the front door anyway. In summer, the Ötztal Summer Card covers the public buses and the hiking buses Umhausen–Niederthai and Längenfeld–Gries.

What makes the Ötztal Nature Park special?

At over 500 km², it is Austria’s third-largest nature park, and with nearly 20% it has the greatest share of glaciers in the country. Swiss stone pine forest, steep rock faces and an unspoilt landscape of lakes give it its character. Hotel Tauferberg sits right in the middle of it – you walk straight in from the front door.
